Mairenken Theme Trail - LEADER Project Bachpromenade along the Reifnitz - EU-funded project of the municipality of Maria Wörth A green recreational area for the whole family is formed by the spacious park along the local river “the Reifnitz”. Here, the “Mairenkenweg Theme Trail” was opened in spring 2022. Along the Reifnitz, fish sculptures have been installed at various stations, providing information about fish populations and encouraging interactive knowledge checks. For example, the Mairenken (bleak) invite to their wedding every year between the end of April and the end of May. During their spawning migration, the animals meet daily in the watercourse of the Reifnitzbach to mate there. Mairenken, also called Seelauben, almost bring the stream to a proverbial “boil”. The Mairenke, a fish species found in Lake Wörthersee, is on the red list of endangered fish and is protected all year round.
