Landesmusikschule Gmunden

Gmunden, Upper Austria

The music school has been located in Villa Klusemann, a building from the Classical period, since 1992. The constantly increasing student numbers and the demand to meet pedagogical developments required an expansion of the premises for the Gmunden music students. Construction work on an extension began in autumn 2014 and was completed at Easter 2016. Generous glass surfaces and barrier-free access to the floors connect the villa with the new extension and convey an open, inviting atmosphere. The new wing houses a medium-sized concert hall, a large room for dance & movement and early musical education, a band and project room, an ensemble room, and a piano and percussion room. The administration rooms are also integrated into a separate area. The straightforward single-story, basement extension allows the villa to continue to dominate in its size and beauty. The beautiful park is located in the center of the villa and the extension and is directly accessible from the concert hall. The music school moved into its new premises at Easter 2016. The extension offers SPACE for inspiration and potential development and encourages making music together and creative design. Approximately 1000 students and 48 teachers are enthusiastic about the new possibilities. The Gmunden Music School is not only an educational institution that provides its students with a basic musical education – early musical education, music garden, parent-child dance – playing an instrument – 30 different instruments – singing and visual arts, but it also places particular emphasis on personality development and critical reflection. Young musically educated people become individuals with strengthened self-confidence, intercultural understanding and respect for others, critical concertgoers of tomorrow, and in the best case, internationally sought-after famous artists. With the expansion of the music school, the best conditions for this have now been created. The teaching team looks forward to many motivated and creative students!
