Kurpark Bad Aussee

Bad Aussee, Styria

Name: Kurpark Bad Aussee Description: The Kurpark in the Heart of AusseerlandThe Kurpark Bad Aussee is a green oasis of tranquility in the center of the spa town and invites you to a relaxed break between nature and city life. Old chestnut trees provide pleasant shade on warm days, well-maintained green areas and seating offer space to linger, and the rushing of the Traun river flowing through the Kurpark accompanies a stroll through the park.Due to its central location, the Kurpark is a popular meeting point for guests and locals and also an important event venue in Bad Aussee. Especially in the summer months, there is regularly music around the pavilion and the Kleine Kurparkbühne (Small Kurpark Stage). The traditional spa concerts bring the sounds of the Ausseerland music bands to the park and offer the perfect end to a successful summer day in Ausseerland. The Kurpark is also an important meeting point during the annual Ausseer Summer Nights for evenings full of music, regional culinary delights, handicrafts, and various other program points. In addition, various markets throughout the year provide variety. At the handicraft market, exhibitors present their handmade works, while during Advent, the Christkindlmarkt (Christmas market) brings pre-Christmas atmosphere to Ausseerland.Sights and Experiences around the Kurpark A special feature of the Kurpark is its location at the geographical center of Austria, which is commemorated today by the Mittelpunktstein (Center Stone). The history behind it dates back to 1949, when the geographical center of Austria was determined as part of a competition. Different calculation methods led to Bad Aussee, and the result was subsequently confirmed by an expert opinion from the University of Vienna. Forty years later, the current monument in the Kurpark was created based on a design by the sculptor Erich Laufer. Just a few meters away is the statue of Archduke Johann, which commemorates his presence in Ausseerland. Another attraction is the Mercedessternbrücke (Mercedes Star Bridge) at the confluence of the Altausseer Traun and the Grundlseer Traun. The extraordinary pedestrian bridge was built in 2005 on the occasion of the Styrian Provincial Exhibition "Narren und Visionäre - mit einer Prise Salz" (Fools and Visionaries - with a Pinch of Salt). The ring-shaped bridge connects the three riverbanks and makes the bridge a striking part of the Kurpark area. Further leisure activities are easily accessible via the Mercedessternbrücke. On the opposite bank, the children's playground at the Kurpark offers various play equipment for climbing, sliding, and letting off steam. Right next to it, the Kneippanlage Bäckerleite (Bäckerleite Kneipp facility) invites you to a refreshing break. Various options for Kneipp treatments for feet, arms, and knees combine movement and relaxation directly by the water. Culturally, the Kurpark in Bad Aussee is also a good starting point, as the Via Artis Bad Aussee begins here, leading through the cultural center of the city on the traces of important personalities. As a special souvenir of a visit to the geographical center of Austria, a Mittelpunkt-Urkunde (Center Certificate) can also be purchased at the nearby Bad Aussee tourist office. Thus, the Kurpark Bad Aussee combines recreation, history, culture, and family-friendly leisure opportunities and forms a versatile starting point for discovering the center of Bad Aussee and the Ausseerland Salzkammergut.
