Name: Art Collections of the Abbey Description: According to legend, at the place where a son of Tassilo, Gunther, died in a hunting accident. Due to the new buildings in the 17th and 18th centuries, Kremsmünster is one of the most important Baroque monastery complexes in Austria.Its exceedingly rich art collections contain some works of world renown: Tassilo Chalice, Tassilo Candlestick, Codex Millenarius, European painting from the 15th to 19th centuries, Armory, Cabinet of Art and Curiosities, Library.The observatory was built from 1748-1758 as a monastic research center for natural sciences and as a universal museum. In its rich exhibition rooms, it offers a unique insight into the historical development and collecting activities of the natural sciences over a period of almost a quarter of a millennium.
