Kulturlandschaft Sauwald

On the field paths to Hötzmannsdorf, the Sauwald high plateau presents itself from its most beautiful side: a mosaic of fields and meadows, extensive forests, traditional farm hamlets, rolling landscape, ... - simply an experience! Next to a granite shrine, a bench invites you to enjoy the landscape there. Despite all its beauty, this cultural landscape also tells of rural cultivation, as it was wrested from the Sauwald over centuries by diligent hands - a fabulous achievement, isn't it? By the way: The Sauwald is a narrow high plateau that stretches between Passau and Eferding south of the Danube. Geologically, it is part of the Bohemian Massif, but was separated from the northern part by the Danube.
