Kraftwerk Klaus - Staumauer

Klaus, Upper Austria

Unfortunately, a guided tour of the operation is not possible. Ennskraft Ennskraftwerke AG (Ennskraft) was founded in 1947 and is headquartered in Steyr. The company is 50 percent owned by VERBUND AG and 50 percent by Energie AG Oberösterreich. Ennskraft operates a total of 14 hydropower plants, twelve of which are on the Enns and two on the Steyr. It thus utilizes the natural water supply of a catchment area of 6080 square kilometers, which is one of the regions with the highest precipitation in Austria, for the generation of electricity from renewable, clean hydropower. After the construction of the power plants, the focus of Ennskraft's tasks today is on operational management, maintenance, and the ongoing modernization and optimization of the power plants, taking into account the latest technical and ecological findings. Ennskraft supplies the generated energy to VERBUND and Energie AG Oberösterreich as well as to the Austrian Federal Railways. With an average annual total generation of around 1,860 million kilowatt-hours, Ennskraft is one of Austria's largest producers of electricity from hydropower.
