Over 400 years ago, the energy of water was already used there for the scythe industry, which is also where the name "Geyerhammer" for the new hydropower plant comes from. In 1994, the weir system was severely damaged by a flood and therefore had to be rebuilt to continue operations at the neighboring Scythe Forging Museum. The idea of using the water in the diversion channel for electricity generation after the renovation of the weir was obvious, and thus the Geyerhammer power plant was created.
