Can you imagine that up to 217 million liters of Styrian water are transported to Vienna daily? No, but you can know that one of Europe's largest drinking water sources bubbles between Mariazell and Wildalpen. Drinking water is precious, and therefore you cannot simply stroll around the source. The Kläfferquellen (approx. 14 km from Wildalpen in the direction of Mariazell) in the Styrian Salzatal offer a small glimpse behind the scenes of drinking water supply. The source outlets are located approx. 90 m inside the mountain, directly at the main tunnel, and are accessible via an access tunnel. During times of particularly strong snowmelt and after heavy rainfall, beautiful waterfalls up to 70 m high emerge on the left bank of the Salza in the area of the Kläfferquellen over a length of 300 m.
