Kirche Steeg

Steeg, Tyrol

The Roman Catholic parish church Steeg, the parish church dedicated to Saint Oswald, belongs to the Breitenwang deanery in the Diocese of Innsbruck. The church with the war memorial chapel are listed buildings. From 1401, the church in Steeg was a filial church of the Holzgau parish church. In 1570, a chapel was mentioned in documents, which was enlarged in 1687. A new building was constructed in 1712/1714, and another new building in 1886/1787, which was consecrated in 1811. In 1969, the nave was extended during a complete restoration. The simple late Baroque church building stands south of the Lech bridge at the southern end of the street village of Steeg. The nave and the recessed choir with round-arch windows have a common gabled roof. The two-story sacristy extension east of the choir shows two rows of round-arch windows. The south tower in the choir angle to the nave has an octagonal upper floor with four round-arch windows and eight circular and oval sound openings and bears an onion dome. In the substructure of the choir, there is a chapel niche. The portal shows a Last Supper relief by sculptor Jos Pirkner (1972).
