Kirche Stadl

As early as 1860, the population of Stadl was determined to build a church. They no longer wanted to accept that children had to make the long journey of up to two hours to student mass in all weather conditions: to Engelhartszell, to St. Aegidi, to St. Roman. But even the elderly often could no longer attend church. However, permission for the church construction was not granted. The population did not give up. The cooperator of Engelhartszell, Rudolf Baron von Buschmann, earned unforgettable merits for the construction of the church. Even before the repeatedly rejected building plans finally arrived on April 8, 1905, the population had long since begun work. From Vienna came a "Most High Donation" from the imperial house of 1000 Kronen. With such dedication and diligence, the people worked. On the Schöfberg and Haugstein, massive granite blocks were blasted out by hand. Primitive ox teams dragged the stones on muddy paths to the construction site, and bricks were made on the Leidinger Wiese because there was no money to buy them from a company. The tower cross was erected as early as August 9, 1906. Let the chronicle speak: The celebration was accompanied by the most beautiful weather. 1000 people were present. An indescribable joy for us as the cross crowned the work and the bells rang from the tower for the first time. From Engelhartszell towards Schärding, after approx. 4.5 km, turn right onto Haugstein Bundesstraße, after approx. 2.5 km, turn left towards Stadl.
