Kirche St. Leonhard Treffling

The Treffling "ecclesia" is first mentioned in a document created between 1060 and 1076. While it was initially a proprietary church of the Eppensteiners (a Carinthian ducal family), it was already a filial church of the Lieseregg parish before 1454. In 1764, St. Leonhard served as a mission station for the Millstatt Jesuits. During the curacy period in the 19th century, it was frequently co-administered from Millstatt or Lieseregg, and Treffling only became an independent parish with a filial church in Tangern in 1806.The current church building appears as a work of late Gothic with subsequent alterations. For example, in 1454, the choir was consecrated with a newly erected altar. In 1518, the nave was also completed, but it was only consecrated in 1534. In 1648, St. Leonhard was described as dilapidated. Several restorations followed over the centuries, most recently from 1990-98.
