Kirche St. Kathrein

The small church was restored in 1911, and the lower church was redesigned in 1993. Felix Orsini-Rosenberg commissioned the adaptation of the baptistery with the baptismal font in 1994. The history: The 3-bay nave along with the 1-bay choir with a 5/8-closure features a roof turret with a pointed spire in the middle. To the west is the lower entrance hall, and on the south side there is a pillar arcaded hall in front of the spring house, above which a wood-covered access leads to the church. Fresco remnants on the choir polygon from the 17th century depict a sundial and coat of arms. The wooden gallery in the entrance bay is remarkable. Flat carvings on the parapet, underside, and front cheek of the ascent with interlace and ribbon entanglements (around 1520). Both the nave and the choir feature a net-rib vault over semicircular pilasters with a capital ring. Lancet windows with tracery noses provide the necessary light. Unfortunately, all stonemason's marks were lost during the 1911 restoration. The winged altar from the younger Villach school was likely donated by the Millstatt Knights of St. George soon after 1520. In the shrine stands St. Catherine next to Vincent and Barbara, flanked by painted wings. On the inside, they show the Birth of Christ (top left), the Adoration of the Magi (bottom left), the Resurrection (top right), and the Miracle of Pentecost (bottom right); on the outside, Mary (left) and the Angel of the Annunciation (right); on the front of the fixed wings, Christopher and Ulrich; on the front of the predella, the Holy Kinship, with Oswald and Apollonia on the left side, and St. Domitian on the right. The finial depicts the "Schmerzenstrias" (Trio of Sorrows): Christ as Man of Sorrows, with Mary and John beside him. On the back of the shrine, Christ's Farewell to His Mother; on the back of the standing wings, the plague saints Sebastian and Rochus; on the back of the predella, an angel with the sudarium; on the lower edge, the inscription "Johannes Schneller 1573". On the back of the winged altar is the scratched inscription "Seyfried Pronner und Anna Pronnerin 1623". The altar was restored in 1956, during which the original coloring of the frame parts and the finial in red and blue was discovered. The pulpit and side altars were removed in 1956. The small bell is dated 1469.
