Kirche St. Bartolomäus in Kreuschlach

In Kreuschlach, situated above Gmünd, the subsidiary church of St. Bartholomew, built in 1518, dominates the landscape. The church perhaps dates from the beginning of the 15th century (archival evidence is sparse). The high altar (late 17th century) shows the patron saint, St. Apostle Bartholomew, and scenes from his life in the altarpiece. During the great earthquake of 1690, the tower was destroyed. On the triumphal arch, we can still read about the event today: "Ruined by the great earthquake on December 4, 1690. Repaired 1691." Here too, we encounter the Lodron coat of arms in the altar railing at the feet of the patron saint, dated 1721.
