Kirche Maria Himmelfahrt in Hintertux

As early as 1737, perhaps even earlier, there was a chapel in Hintertux, initially made of wood, which was dedicated to St. Bartholomew the Apostle; it was later walled. The altarpiece depicted a Madonna of Mercy. In the years 1936/37, construction began on a Dr. Engelbert Dollfuß Memorial Church, which - still in its shell - was blown up in 1941 by order of the National Socialist Tyrolean Gauleiter Hofer. After the end of the Second World War, efforts were made to build a new chapel in Hintertux, which finally found their successful conclusion with the consecration of the current Church of Maria Himmelfahrt on August 15, 1952. The church, built according to plans by Jakob Walcher in simple, clear forms, was renovated in 1988 and equipped with a new organ.
