Katholische Pfarrkirche St. Maximilian

Treffen am Ossiacher See, Carinthia

The originally Gothic church was rebuilt several times due to earthquakes and floods. The nave walls and the tower foundation that still exist today date from the 12th century. Since a renovation in 1812, the interior has been classified as Neoclassical. Nevertheless, here, on the exterior facade, there is a Gothic painting from 1495, depicting Jesus on the Mount of Olives, by the well-known fresco painter Thomas von Villach. Furthermore, late Baroque paintings by the painters Johann Bertl, Anton Cusetti, Max Steiner and Stephan Kessler can be seen. Another special feature is located in the churchyard: it is the grave of an unknown soldier from 1799 (2nd Coalition War).
