Altmünster, Upper Austria
The inhabitants of Viechtau were originally partly assigned to the parish of Altmünster and partly to Traunkirchen. It was not until 1754 that Neukirchen received its own church under Empress Maria Theresia. Neukirchen was a mission station from 1754 to 1787, then an Expositur (pastoral district without its own asset management) of Altmünster. The parish name "Neukirchen" has been common since approximately 1780. In 1798 the sacristy, in 1822 the cemetery in the "Liendhalt" and in 1840 the onion dome were built. On August 5, 1846 - after 92 years of its existence - the church "Maria Schnee" was consecrated. In 1850 the tower clock was purchased. In 1891 Neukirchen became an independent parish. The patronage is "Maria Schnee" to this day and is celebrated on August 5. Today, the parish of Neukirchen has approximately 2000 Catholics. A jewel in the interior of the church is the baroque altar. It comes from the old Minoritenkirche in Vienna. The figure of Saint Joachim (father of the Mother of God) deserves special attention.
