Kapuzinerkloster

The Capuchin Monastery was built according to the wishes of its founder, Emperor Ferdinand II, as a base for the missionization of the Salzkammergut. On October 5, 1636, the foundation stone for the church and monastery was laid. On November 25, 1645, the church was consecrated in honor of the Visitation of Mary. During the Second World War, the monastery had to be completely evacuated. However, the church remained available for pastoral care. In 1958, the altarpieces by Philipp Haller were restored and reinstalled. Between 1964 and 1967, the interior of the church was redesigned. A thorough exterior renovation of the church took place in 1978. Since the dissolution of the monastery in 2007, the sacred building has been a filial church to the Roman Catholic parish church of Gmunden.More information can be found at Gmunden's Treasures!
