In Gmunden, a building complex in Kammerhofgasse right next to the Trauntor is known as "Kammerhof". The historic Kammerhof is a building complex dating from the 14th century, which became one of the most important institutions in the Salzkammergut region after 1453 as the seat of the provincial salt office. The building was erected around 1450 from two existing "Hofstätten" for the imperial salt office. Originally it was a Gothic complex, which was greatly enlarged and altered over time. Only in 1854 was the wing facing the lake built in Schleißgasse. Without a doubt, the Kammerhof was - and still is today - the dominant building in the city of Gmunden. Since the Nazi era, the largest part of the building has been used as a museum ("Kammerhofmuseum" / "K-Hof Museen"). You can find more information under Gmundens Schätze!
