Kalvarienbergkapelle Neukirchen

In 1881, the vicar of Neukirchen, Heinrich Becker, acquired a 61 square Klafter (just under 220 m²) plot of land from the "Mühlegg" house to build a chapel on it. The purchase price was paid by Franz Pesendorfer, a timber merchant in Altmünster and owner of the "Winterleiten" house in Neukirchen. The Pesendorfer family also had the chapel, which was blessed on August 6, 1882, by Father Cölestin Wolfsgruber from "Jagerl in der Alm", built with their own funds and also ensured its maintenance. In 1952, the chapel urgently needed renovation. Since the chapel was still privately owned and the ownership was not entirely clear, the court only recognized the ownership rights of the Neukirchen parish in February 1955. Originally, the church was equipped with 2 bells. On the 69 kg bell, which had to be handed over for metal collection in October 1916, it said: Dedicated by the founders and builders of the Kalvarienbergkapelle Franz and Aloisia Pesendorfer, timber merchants in Winterleiten, Neukirchen, Vienna and Budapest. 1885. The second bell with images of the Dolorosa, Mary with lily and Mary with the infant Jesus, as well as ornaments with putti heads, leaves and flowers, had the inscription: Dedicated by the siblings Franz, Amalia, Maria, Alois, Friedrich, Heinrich, Paula and Anna Pesendorfer in Winterleiten, Neukirchen.
