Kalvarienberg mit Kalvarienbergkapellen

Via many stone steps laid in 1739, one reaches the main chapel on the centrally located Kalvarienberg after four devotional chapels. In this chapel, completed in 1699 and thus the oldest Kalvarienberg chapel in the Salzkammergut, there is a baroque crucifixion group and old murals. When viewing these paintings, the curious depiction of the "heavenly Jerusalem" relocated to the landscape of the Salzkammergut is particularly striking. The traditional custom of "Antlaßsingen" on the night from Maundy Thursday to Good Friday concludes with the morning procession of supplication to the Kalvarienberg.
