As early as 1741, large Passion processions are said to have taken place to the crucifixion group on the mountain, and today the parish of St. Jakob from Windischgarsten prays every Friday during Lent to the Kalvarienberg Kirche to celebrate divine service there. Provost Grundtner from Spital am Pyhrn initiated the construction of the Kalvarienbergkirche in 1778. However, the church was only built in the 1840s with the support of the citizens of Windischgarsten. School children transported the bricks up the mountain by hand. In Advent 1843, the church was completed in a simple Baroque style. The burial chapel was later added to the altar area. On July 20, 1844, the Kalvarienbergkirche was consecrated. It was renovated in 1995.
