The Carinthian Open-Air Museum, the oldest museum of its kind in Austria, is located in the culturally and historically significant heart of Carinthia in the municipality of Maria Saal. It houses rural house and farm types from various parts of Carinthia, which provide insight into the living and economic practices of past times. Also on display are pre-industrial facilities typical for Carinthia from the 18th and 19th centuries, such as Floder and Radmühlen (mills), a sawmill, a lime kiln, and a weighbridge. The tour includes peasant and herb gardens and various fence types. In total, 36 museum objects spanning six centuries offer insights into the rural life and work of Carinthia.
