Joseph Mohr Kapelle

Hintersee, Salzburg

This place for contemplation was built in 2016, the year "200 Years of Salzburg with Austria". Joseph Mohr wrote the lyrics for "Silent Night, Holy Night!" in Mariapfarr in 1816 and worked as a parish vicar in Hintersee from 1828 to 1837. In 1818, the song composed by Franz Xaver Gruber was heard for the first time in Oberndorf. This place of the World Peace Song was built by the Hintersee Tourist Association and the Province of Salzburg with partners, and blessed on October 7, 2016, by Bishop's Vicar Martin Walchhofer. The idea and planning originated in cooperation between the two universities of applied sciences Urstein and Kuchl and the Hintersee Tourist Association. The interior of the chapel was designed by the Hintersee artist Bernd Horak. The best way to reach the chapel is to park at the municipal parking lot and turn left into "Lämmerbach" street at the Alte Krämerei. Follow the street to the end and continue on the gravel road. After a short time, the chapel is visible and reached.
