Monika Friedl from Unterlamm saw her son Gilbert, who was born physically disabled and given little chance of survival by doctors, walk in his sleep almost four decades ago. She then swore that if that ever happened, she would put up a cross. Seven years later, on Christmas Day, the Christmas miracle happened – Gilbert began to walk, and the Friedl family erected a wayside cross. That was the foundation for a much greater wish, for the fulfillment of which Monika Friedl gave up luxury, visits to Buschenschank (wine taverns), every excursion and holiday in order to save. In 2009, the Friedl family then started building the chapel, a miniature version of the Mariatrost Basilica. Two twenty-meter-high towers with reddish-brown baroque onion domes now rise into the sky above the Setzberg in Unterlamm, within sight of the Friedl family's farm. The chapel is twelve meters long and almost 70 square meters in size. The choir room can accommodate around 25 people. Work on the Catholic church took almost 16 months. The five children – including Gilbert – diligently helped to fulfill their mother's lifelong dream. Franz Friedl, a trained civil engineer who designed and planned the chapel himself, was in charge. At the inauguration on the Assumption of Mary in 2010, Father Franz Brei rang the four bells for the first time – a moving moment for the Friedl family. Fleckviehhof & Farm Café Friedl A few meters from the St. Joseph's Chapel is the Friedl family's Fleckviehhof (Simmental cattle farm). Above the 70 dairy cows, which are milked by a milking robot, a farm café was built in 2012, which allows viewing of the stable from the café. Here, the Friedl family serves coffee and homemade cakes.
