In September 2007, the Josefshütte in Schönfeld was completely destroyed by fire. It served as a memorial for the widely beloved and legendary folk parish priest GR Valentin Pfeifenberger, known beyond the borders of Lungau. The reconstruction was mainly funded through donations and volunteer work from helpers in Thomatal and Schönfeld. On the traditional Mähsonntag (meadow cutting Sunday), August 2, 2009, the local parish priest Dr. Manfred Thaler, surrounded by the Thomatal music club, solemnly inaugurated the newly built Josefshütte with significant participation from the local community. The new Josefshütte impresses with its simplicity and serves as a place of devotion and reflection.
