Johanneskapelle mit Lourdesgrotte

The Johannes-Nepomuk-Kapelle is located directly in the village center of Fieberbrunn. Built in 1760 by court scribe Simon Millinger in honor of Vicar Johannes Nepomuk, who was murdered during the Prague Defenestration. The chapel became a symbol for protection against floods, which regularly afflicted the village at that time. In 1790, the chapel was closed by Joseph II (reformer) despite protests from the population. After a storm, it was newly renovated and reopened. The frescoes by Matthäus Günther (1762) are world-renowned, and since 1949 it has served as a war memorial. Both in its architectural structure and artistic furnishings, it is one of the most significant Rococo chapels in Tyrol.
