The Jesuit Church is located in the center of Innsbruck: on Universitätsstraße near the Imperial Hofburg. It is consecrated to the Holy Trinity, serves as a university church, and is cared for by Jesuits, as it was in its beginnings. The cruciform domed church was designed after the model of early Roman sacred buildings. The buildings of the Faculty of Theology surround the structure. They were once the Jesuit College. Thus, since the founding of Innsbruck University in the 17th century, the church has been at the center of Catholic student life. This was closely linked to the Jesuit order from the very beginning. Because: its members taught theology at the university.Christoph Gumpp, a member of the well-known Innsbruck master builder dynasty, designed the facade. Anyone interested in the history of Innsbruck's townhouses and churches will often read the name Gumpp. The family shaped Innsbruck over several generations. However, the Jesuit Church owes its existence to a generous donation: Archduke Leopold V and Claudia de Medici endowed its construction.Also look inside the church! It is very beautifully designed.
