Jagabildkapelle

Engelhartszell, Upper Austria

At the saddle above the Haugstein ridge, we stand surrounded by ancient mountain mixed forest in front of the idyllic Jagabild Chapel. We already read its legendary founding story at the Donausteig rest stop "Teich". The chapel surprises with a colorful, three-part altarpiece – simply worth seeing! The small forest chapel, in which the stump of the beech tree is located, to which - according to legend - about 300 years ago a hunter was tied headfirst by poachers. A white deer saved him from certain death. 14 artistically designed Stations of the Cross lead to the Jagabild. Tip: The chapel can be illuminated via a light switch, then the beautiful altarpiece shines particularly splendidly! In addition, a Donausteig panel here tells of the Haugstein as the highest peak of the Sauwald and of its special landscape phenomena – learning to read cultural landscapes! The Jagabild, the hunter's memorial site of the Schärding district, is a small forest chapel, in which the stump of the beech tree is located, to which - according to legend - about 300 years ago a hunter was tied headfirst by poachers. A white deer saved him from certain death. 14 artistically designed Stations of the Cross lead to the Jagabild.
