Innsbrucker Hauptbahnhof Max Weiler Wandmalereien

With the commission for the ticket hall of Innsbruck's main train station (1954/55), Weiler once again created a work of great public attention. Depicted on two corresponding wall panels are Innsbruck's history and Innsbruck's present. The works combine characteristic pictorial signs from the past and from the contemporary world, providing the arriving or departing traveler with a visual summary of the place. Weiler's decorative aesthetic can be particularly well understood from these open murals painted in silicate paints. It does not intend a direct confrontation with the viewer, but rather reacts to the partial attention of people who are engrossed in their business, who pass by and do not want to immerse themselves in pictures. These are works that anticipate an ambulatory gaze. The murals were removed in 2001 and reinstalled in a prominent position in the new Innsbruck main train station in 2004. Source: www.maxweiler.at
