Hoch Kapelle

On the Mehrnstein, next to the ruins of the castle of the same name, stood a simple wooden structure that from the outside looked more like a hay barn than a chapel. The chapel had no windows and only a small ventilation hole above the door allowed light and air into the room, albeit sparsely. The oldest inscriptions in the "wooden guestbook of the chapel" dated from the first half of the 19th century, which is also when the building was to be dated. The chapel was probably visited especially by pilgrims who went to the Maria-Hilf-Kirche located further down. In April 2003, the Brixlegg rifle company began renovating the Hochkapelle, which stood high above Brixlegg on the Mariahilfbergl. The Hochkapelle was solemnly consecrated on May 5, 2005 (Feast of the Ascension of Christ) by Father Mag. Josef Wörter. At the same time, the newly designed rock tomb of Heinrich Knoll below the Heldenkreuz was also blessed. Unfortunately, the newly renovated Hochkapelle fell victim to flames on the evening of May 6, 2007. In 2009, at the initiative of the Brixlegg rifle company, the reconstruction of the Hochkapelle began again and was completed. The solemn inauguration took place on April 18, 2010.
