From ponies for the children to an entire zoo Everyone in Lavanttal probably knows Hobbyfarm Schildberger, but it all started quite differently... 30 years ago, the Schildberger couple, who have been married since 1973, bought ponies and a few chickens for their children Sabine and Walter. The foundation for today's Hobbyfarm was (unconsciously) laid. Gradually, more and more animals were added, and before they knew it, "a few animals for the children" had become an entire petting zoo. Today, Hobbyfarm Schildberger is a popular excursion destination for young and old, and the family business, with son Walter also working alongside the founders, has evolved from a hobby to a full-time job. Work with and among the animals is done from 6 AM to 8 PM, "there's hardly any time for other hobbies," the family reports. In addition to feeding and caring for the animals, cleaning and maintaining the enclosures and stables, as well as raising young animals, are also on the agenda. Roswitha Schildberger also takes care of the guests and now serves them homemade pizza and Pizza Margherita – so the Schildbergers are quite versatile, and above all, they wish for good health so that the farm can continue to run smoothly for many years. Numerous crowd favorites have now joined the colorful array of animals on the farm of the trained carpenter and his wife, who previously worked at LKH Wolfsberg. In addition to Shetland ponies, domestic donkeys, miniature dwarf donkeys, llamas, alpacas, kangaroos, muntjac deer, Pampas hares, and various chicken breeds, giant tortoises, parrots, goats, rodents, and peacocks have also made themselves comfortable at Hobbyfarm Schildberger. By the way, grandson Fabian, at four and a half years old, is already diligently practicing how best to care for the animals, so we hope the family business will remain with us for a long time.
