Historischer Wasserstollen in Ebenau

In the Ebenau town center, opposite the municipal office, is the romantic Schwarzaubachklamm gorge with the historical, accessible water tunnel. Through the 53.3 m long tunnel, water was diverted from the Schwarzaubach gorge to the water wheels of the hammer mill. The 1.8 m high tunnel with a trapezoidal cross-section was probably driven through the dolomite rock in the 18th century by blasting with black powder. Numerous 30-60 cm deep, hand-made drill hole pipes are still clearly visible today. Due to the excellent mountain stability of the dolomite rock, no support measures, e.g. timbering of the tunnel, are required. During World War II, locals used it as an air-raid shelter!
