Historischer Ortskern, Aschach

The market town of Aschach is located between Passau and Linz, nestled in the Danube Valley, on the edge of the Eferding Basin at an altitude of 268 m in the Hausruckviertel. Its extent is 4.1 km from north to south and 7.7 km from west to east. The total area is 6 km². 1.8% of the area is forested. Districts of the municipality are: Aschach an der Donau, Ruprechting, Sommerberg.First mentioned in 777 at the founding of Kremsmünster Monastery, originally the eastern part of the Duchy of Bavaria, the town belonged to the Duchy of Austria from the 12th century. From 1490, Aschach was assigned to the Principality 'Österreich ob der Enns', and in 1512 Emperor Maximilian granted it market rights and the market coat of arms. During the Napoleonic Wars, the town was occupied several times. Since 1918, the town has belonged to the federal state of Upper Austria.The cozy outdoor dining areas on the Danube promenade are a popular meeting point for walkers and cyclists.
