At the foot of the Vilsegg castle ruins directly on the GEOpfad Pfronten-Vils stands the historic hammer forge of Vils, which served the Lords of Hohenegg as a weapons forge in the Middle Ages. Together with the Vilsegg castle ruins and the small romantic church of St. Anna, this ensemble forms a unique rarity in Tyrol. Inside the hammer forge, there is an exhibition that addresses the topics of iron production in the Middle Ages, weapons forging, Engelbert Hartmann (one of the last blacksmiths), and the visits of the Royal Bavarian family of Ludwig II. Guided tours in the hammer forge can be arranged at www.hammerschmiede-vils.at.
