Heimatmuseum "Troadkastn"

The Urnfield period (between 1200 and 750 BC) is derived from the fact that the deceased was cremated in traditional costume and grave goods on a pyre, and the ashes were deposited in a clay vessel. Due to the construction of the Pyhrn motorway, extensive preliminary surveys of archaeological monuments were initiated by the Federal Monuments Office in 1988. A hobby mineralogist from Mautern discovered slag in the area of Ehrnau Castle, which was examined at the Montanuniversität in Leoben. Thus, this prehistoric copper smelting plant, measuring 20 x 15m, could be found and excavated.
