The museum provides insight into the historical development of the region. The oldest traces of settlement date back to the Neolithic Age. Agriculture and livestock farming were the livelihood of the population until the recent past. Only with increasing industrialization did a fundamental change occur. The museum displays exhibits from the geological development of the landscape, prehistory and early history, the medieval settlement period, up to the peasant liberation. Old farming equipment and personal accounts from the population convey an impression of daily life on a former farm in the market town of Grafendorf bei Hartberg.
