Franz Strick began collecting stones and minerals over 70 years ago. His son and later also his grandson Franz Strick continued this collecting activity and expanded it to other objects. This resulted in a classic private local history museum with a collection of furniture, rural household items, coins, pictures, and books, which is now – already in its fourth generation – looked after by the daughter of Franz Strick, who passed away in 2015. To be able to present the objects, the house was already converted in 1958. Today, a room on the ground floor houses a considerable historical library. On the first floor, a wealth of objects are displayed, e.g., bones of cave bears, minerals, and votive pictures. In the attic, the masks and costumes of the Mitterndorf Nikolospiel are stored. The largest private nativity scene in Mitterndorf with around 150 figures can be viewed on the top floor alongside flags, military caps, fire brigade helmets, as well as baking molds and decorations from the Almabtrieb (alpine cattle drive).
