Mauthausen, Upper Austria
Since its modernization in summer 2019, the exhibition in Room 1 has become the starting point for a contemporary engagement with the concept of "Heimat" (homeland), thus achieving supra-regional significance. The second room is dedicated to the economic development of the town: the Danube as a transport route, salt as a commodity, and the granite deposits profoundly shaped the history of Mauthausen. Interesting exhibits and beautiful model replicas (e.g., ship train and ship mill) transport visitors back to a bygone era. In both castle museums (Local History Museum and Pharmacy Museum), knowledge transfer has been supported by a modern, multilingual audio guide system (DE, EN, IT, CZ, children's track) since the modernization in summer 2019; however, personal guided tours are also offered for groups.
