Hansalkapelle

Hansalkapelle

Göriach, Salzburg

Next to the Winkelweg towards Hüttendorf, shortly before the Ederalm, is the Hansal Chapel. The masonry chapel niche is plastered and decorated with yellow paint bands. Above the pointed-arch entrance to the niche, the inscription "18 JHW 80" is painted on the facade. The pyramid-shaped roof is covered with wooden shingles and adorned with a shamrock cross. Protected by the slightly projecting eaves, two martyr plaques are mounted on the east side. In front of the recessed, segmental-arched niche, which is secured with a lattice grille, there is a prayer bench. The furnishings of the niche include saint figures, a framed Heart Jesus image, a Heart Mary image, and the central niche image showing Mary with the Child, inspired by the Gnadenbild Maria Hilf. In 1938, Johann Wirnsperger acquired the Hansaltgut and built the Hansal Chapel in the Winkel to commemorate this. With the acquisition of the Hansalgut by Johann Wirnsperger, the Wirnsperger family name became associated with the estate. Previously, the estate had been managed by the Ehrenreich family for 260 years. In the 1980s, the chapel masonry was last renovated by Matthias Wirnsperger. The winter hiking trail in Hintergöriach leads to the Hansalkapelle, making it accessible also in winter.
