Gschlösstal

Matrei i.O., Tyrol

The Gschlösstal is considered the most beautiful valley head in the Eastern Alps. From here, a view opens up over the imposing glacier world around the Großvenediger. This mighty iceberg watches over the wild and romantic Gschlösstal in the heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park. Gigantic forces of the glaciers once shaped this landscape, and here in the Hohe Tauern, they are still at work. Hikers gain insight into the impressive world of the glacier foreland and its pioneer vegetation. The untouched and ancient natural landscape is a habitat for many rare animal and plant species. The Salzbodensee, the Eye of God, a popular photo motif, and the Schlatenkees are just a few highlights. With a little luck, one can spot a bearded vulture in the air and watch it circle. The hike to Innergschlöss is easy and offers a surprising variety of charming photo motifs from the natural and cultural landscape of the Hohe Tauern National Park.
