A unique natural spectacle makes this beautiful lake special. With the onset of snowmelt in the mountains, it fills with crystal-clear spring water up to a maximum depth of 10m. The water level depends on winters with heavy or light snowfall and on precipitation. From spring to late summer, the breathtaking lake shows its most beautiful side. During an exploration tour at high water levels, one discovers submerged hiking trails, wooden bridges, and benches. In autumn and winter, the Grüner See almost completely disappears again. Where visitors marvel at submerged benches and bridges in spring and summer, in winter one walks on the bottom of the Grüner See and admires the breathtaking mountain panorama. A paradise for nature lovers, the Grüner See is located in the municipality of Tragöß - Sankt Katharein, where guests enjoy the fresh air, the tranquility, and the picturesque Alm (mountain pasture) meadows. The beautiful surroundings are best enjoyed through outdoor activities such as hikes on the Kamplsteig, to the Edelweißboden, or into the Marienklamm. All these hikes are connected by a unique flora that blooms anew here every year. Getting to the Grüner See The Grüner See is a special treasure, located in a completely intact natural environment. An environmentally friendly journey to this picturesque place is possible by public transport. RegioBus Steiermark 175 takes passengers directly from Bruck an der Mur to Tragöß. Please note: Bus connections on weekends are only guaranteed during the hiking season from May to October. When arriving by car, there are two paid parking lots to choose from: • Grüner See parking lot • Jassing parking lot The parking fee is 6.00 Euros for one day. A season ticket is available for 60.00 Euros. Payment is made directly at the tourist office at the “Grüner See” parking lot. Camping and overnight stays are not permitted in the parking lots.
