Grünbaumkapelle

This Baroque place of worship was built in 1725 and bore the name "Maria Hoffnung am Birnbaum" (Mary Hope at the Pear Tree). The reason for the special veneration was an image of "Mary with Child". This miraculous image was already the subject of private veneration in 1699, after citizen Weigl, as judicial witnesses testified, was cured of fever through the intercession of the Holy Mother of God. To enable all those seeking healing to access the image, it was affixed to a tree from 1701. Due to many answered prayers, the chapel was erected, where a tree stump still commemorates the prehistory. Several times, pilgrimages of boatmen and processions, also from Enns, through Rathausgasse and Brunngasse to the Grünbaumkapelle are noted in the chronicle. The last thorough renovation took place from 1980-84 with significant effort from the Mauthausen volunteer fire brigade, many helpers from the parish, and sponsors.
