The natural stone educational trail, the Hammerhütte as a small museum including film and craft demonstrations, extraordinary events in the natural amphitheater Arena Granit, as well as adjacent wonderful hiking opportunities through the Mühlviertel Granite Uplands complete the experience. Guided tours offered year-round introduce you to the history of the granite region and Austrian petrology. Its orientation as a petrological educational trail based on a geological classification, which leads through all regions of Austria from north to south, is unique. The main focuses of the educational trail are granites from the Granite Uplands (Mühlviertel, Waldviertel, Sauwald) and the EUREGIO Böhmerwald/Bavarian Forest, as well as natural stones from all over Austria, such as marble, limestone, conglomerate, sandstone, and many more. International Granite Varieties: In addition, 50 international granite varieties are presented, which impress with a special variety of colors, structures, and textures. Furthermore, native deciduous trees complement the educational offerings. Various worksheets (incl. solutions) and group activities for students and clubs make Erlebniswelt Granit an attractive excursion destination. Year-round Guided Tours: In the year-round guided tours, since 2011 also with audio guides (here the information comes from the 'tape' and is listened to via headphones), you will be introduced to the history of the granite region and Austrian petrology. A resting place at the intersection of the educational trail with the hiking trails "Feldbahn" and "Granitweg", as well as a resting place of the 'Donausteig', invite you to linger. At this point, the granite play castle "Burg Plekhingstein" towers, stacked from large granite blocks and boulders with passages, caves, and a castle chamber as an attraction for the youngest visitors. Autobahn exit Linz-Urfahr, then towards Ottensheim-Rohrbach. From Passau, cross the Danube at Aschach and your holiday in St. Martin begins (8 km from Aschach, 15 km from Eferding). Coming from the north, drive along the B 127 towards Linz, after 23 km turn right to St. Martin. By train: In Linz/Urfahr, take the Mühlkreisbahn and exit the train at Gerling or Neuhaus/Niederwaldkirchen station.
