Guided tours take place in July and August at 10:30, 12:00, 14:00, 15:30 and 17:00 – for registered groups of 20 people or more, also at other times! You should allow approx. 1-1.5 hours for your visit. The Granatium is barrier-free and suitable for strollers. Weather-appropriate casual clothing is recommended. The tunnel has a temperature of 8-10 degrees. The special exhibition in the Granatium is dedicated to the "white gold" magnesite. "The WORK – Then and Now." provides a unique insight into magnesite mining, the discovery of the deposits, the influence on the region and the work in the plant. A chamber full of treasures: The heart of the Granatium – the Garnet Room – was created from a vision of the geologist and mineralogist Dr. Georg Kandutsch. 80 tons of garnet stones - exclusively mined or found in Carinthia - were needed to line the Garnet Room. The thinly ground, backlit garnets are impressively displayed here. The 300-meter-long tunnel, which connects to the museum, gives visitors an insight into the underground home of the gemstone. Past a small, clear lake, pyrite and garnet veins, it leads back outside. There, the prospecting area opens up at the Kaning Bach. Equipped with safety glasses and a hammer, young and old miners get to work and pan for garnet stones from the garnet vein.
