On June 15, 1822, a major fire broke out at four o'clock in the afternoon in Niclas Seitz's nail forge. By evening, 55 burgher houses in Gnas had burned down to their foundations. Even today, the so-called memorial book of master teacher Vinzenz Hartl, preserved in the local museum, commemorates this black day in the history of Gnas.
