The Erz der Alpen UNESCO Global Geopark Visitor Center is located in the Schanzenareal of the ski jumping metropolis Bischofshofen. Directly next to the world-famous Paul Außerleitner ski jump, you will find the impressive extension to the Österreichhaus, which hosted the Austrian Olympic team during the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin. The visitor center was built in 2014/15 as part of the BayAut Interreg project in collaboration with the partner Naturkunde- und Mammutmuseum Siegsdorf (Bavaria). The visitor center is the central culmination point of the Geopark. The participating towns of Bischofshofen, Mühlbach am Hochkönig, Hüttau, and St. Veit present a joint exhibition with life-sized displays about prehistoric and historic ore mining, making the topic an extraordinary and "tangible" experience. Visitors receive a comprehensive overview of the entire Geopark with all its attractions such as geosites, show mines, show tunnels, and museums. Annually, the visitor center hosts special exhibitions.
