Gebetskapelle Arndorf

The Arndorf Prayer Chapel shows a kneeling Christ on the Mount of Olives, but deliberately not a depiction of the crucifixion, but rather a Jesus looking up at the cross and thus accepting the cross. "I go my way and will not be deterred." The chapel was planned by Karl Pfeifer; the Jesus figure was carved from linden wood from the adjacent Arndorfer forest by Hans Pendl. In Arndorf, formerly called Aribendorf, there had been a wayside shrine since 1755, and it is said that the Christianization of our region began here. In 2016, this original wayside shrine was demolished and rebuilt and consecrated by the residents of Arndorf with great diligence and in countless hours. The bishop's cross and the memorial for the fallen local residents were taken from the original cross and placed on the back of the new chapel.
