The Galgenwald in Birkfeld still holds stories, including the consequences of a miscarriage of justice during the Thirty Years' War. A vagrant was falsely accused and executed, which led to a devastating storm and the formation of the Schinaglgraben, which divided the town and made it uninhabitable for centuries. Today, only the gallows remain to commemorate this dark episode of the past. The structure is protected according to the Monument Protection Act.
