Fuschl am See, Salzburg

The emerald-green Fuschlsee is located in the eastern Flachgau and belongs to the Salzkammergut. It is owned by Österreichische Bundesforste AG. Throughout the entire state of Salzburg and the Salzkammergut, the Fuschlsee is the cleanest and clearest lake of all. There is an absolute motorboat ban on the Fuschlsee. This is why the water is of particularly high quality and clean and is used as drinking water. The lake drains via the Fuschler-Ache into the Mondsee and via Attersee, Ager, and Traun into the Danube. The Fuschlsee was named “Hofküchensee” (Court Kitchen Lake) during the times when Salzburg's archbishops still used Schloss Fuschl for hunting excursions. This meant that all fish caught from the lake were exclusively destined for the archbishop's table – proof of the particularly good quality of the fish from the crystal-clear waters of the Fuschlsee. Today, there are 14 different fish species in the Fuschlsee. Key data for the Fuschlsee: Length: 4.1 km Width: 0.9 km Maximum depth: 67.3 m 664 meters above sea level
