"Thaddäus Steinmayr, driven by his terrible personal experiences in World War II and the impressions and threat scenarios of the Cold War, achieved great fame for our St. Ulrich with the erection of the Monument to the Peace of the Youth of the World 45 years ago and the declaration as the first Peace Municipality in the world 40 years ago.This year, in view of current events just a few hundred kilometers from our national border, the importance of active peace work has become very clear to us again.On Peace Sunday, May 22, 2022, together with representatives of our partner municipalities Postbauer-Heng and Souleuvre en Bocage, the mayors of our neighboring municipalities Steyr and Behamberg, and the official representation of the state of Upper Austria, it became palpable how important it is not only to talk about peace, but to live peace.Already in advance, the children in kindergartens and elementary schools dealt with the topic and brought their colorfully painted stones to the church service at the Peace Monument, which has been expanded into a "Friedenst(d)ankstelle" (peace-thank-you-station). The stones are to be taken along on the newly marked peace hiking trails and encourage reflection, recharging, reconciliation, and giving thanks. The trails start at the Peace Monument or at the church square in Kleinraming, meet at the Dambergwarte, and are a symbol of the connection and peaceful coexistence of our two districts.Those for whom walking is too strenuous are invited to stay on the square around the Peace Monument and inform themselves, among other things, about the development of the Peace Municipality in the former telephone booth converted into "Friedoline".The "Window to the World" and the blooming mandala in the shape of a tree of life, designed and created by the students of the Kleinraming Agricultural School, additionally enhance our Friedenst(d)ankstelle and invite peaceful lingering.
